Running ATI's proprietary driver installer (or
fglrxconfig afterward), deletes /etc/X11/XF86Config, which is obsolete. However, upon system start-up /etc/init.d/firstboot checks for the file and, if it's missing, runs RedHat's video configuration program, which screws up your ATI card so that it causes the Dell monitor to blank periodically. Therefore, after upding ATI's driver:
- do not run fglrxconfig
- do make sure /etc/X11/XF86Config exists and if not, create a link to XF86Config-4
